As part of the Hind Life and Education Trust Scholarship and Grants Project, the Trust provides poor students and low income families with college cash and grants in India, mainly in the state of Bihar. This project has been designed to promote accessibility to post-secondary education for low income students belonging to minority and weaker sections of society. The amount of money awarded to the student and the number of students covered under this project depend on the contributions made by individuals and organizations to the HLET.
Eligibility is limited to families with a combined annual income of less than Indian rupees 300,000. Scholarships range from Rs1,000 to Rs5,000 each, and are designed as supplemental scholarships. There is also a provision under this project to make available one time grant to a poor student. Indian students mainly from weaker sections of society including minorities, enrolled full-time as undergraduates at accredited colleges or universities across India, with average or better test scores are eligible to apply for the program. An announcement regarding the scholarship for the new academic year will be made in July/August every year.
